The Affordable Housing & Market Solutions team is a strategic, department-level business unit and oversees the following key functions:
- Secures private industry commitment to deliver affordable housing through negotiation of land management agreements and tracks ongoing compliance. This includes projects managed by the SA Housing Trust (SAHT) and Renewal SA, as well as those through the 15 per cent affordable housing planning policy and Premier and Cabinet Circular 114: PC 114 – Government Real Property Management.
- Lists properties created for affordable housing home ownership on HomeSeeker SA, allowing targeting to eligible homebuyers. This includes new homes being developed by the private sector and under various State Government initiatives, such as SAHT’s Affordable Housing Initiative (1,000 Homes Program) and Renewal SA’s residential projects including those at Bowden, Oakden, Prospect Corner and Playford Alive.
- Manages the HomeSeeker SA website that provides information about government incentives and advice on how to buy and rent an affordable home.
- Contributes to policy and strategic development at state- and agency-level to help in the creation of affordable housing.
- Ensures affordable housing is able to be delivered through inclusionary zoning policy in the planning system.
The delivery of new affordable housing supports key economic and social infrastructure for the state, including stimulating the housing construction sector.
The Affordable Housing & Market Solutions team works closely with organisations within the department’s portfolio, including SA Housing Trust, Planning and Land Use Services and Renewal SA, as well as other government agencies, such as HomeStart Finance and RevenueSA, to help facilitate the development and delivery of affordable housing.
