A range of modern modular homes aimed at speeding up housing delivery in regional and remote communities, are on display in Adelaide's north.

The initiative is part of a $3.35 million trial being delivered by the State Government through Renewal SA's Office for Regional Housing, which is designed to test whether these homes can provide a well-priced, high-quality solution for key worker housing in small rural communities, where trades and construction materials may be scarce.

Regional councils, businesses and industry groups are invited to assess their viability as a serious option to grow regional housing supply at a new purpose-built display village in Edinburgh Parks from today until the end of the year.

The homes were constructed at off-site facilities before being disassembled and transported by truck to their display destination.

After the demonstration period, the homes will be relocated to rural South Australian communities experiencing shortages of key government worker housing where tenants will occupy them on an ongoing basis.

Key workers remain at the heart of the Office for Regional Housing's work, with a shortage of suitable homes making it harder for country towns to attract and keep the nurses, teachers, police and other essential staff their communities rely on.

The Office for Regional Housing is working with partners in the Flinders Ranges and Yorke Peninsula as potential locations for these homes.

Destination Built, Fleetwood and Urbanlux were chosen by Renewal SA's Office for Regional Housing through a competitive tender process to each deliver one two-bedroom and one three-bedroom modular transportable home.

Each dwelling features an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, two bathrooms, a laundry and an alfresco area.

The two-bedroom homes have a total footprint of about 115 square metres, while the larger three-bedroom option sits just above 135 square metres.
