David Ryan, Chief Executive of SA Water, has resigned to pursue opportunities interstate after almost seven years in the position.

The State Government will shortly commence the process to appoint an interim Chief Executive.

Thereafter, the State Government will lead a recruitment process to find a new Chief Executive to lead SA Water.

Under David’s leadership, SA Water has overseen the delivery of an expansion of its network to accommodate housing growth across South Australia, through the State Government’s $1.5 billion investment in water infrastructure.

More homes are now being built in South Australia than at any time in the state's history, underpinned by this expansion.

David also led SA Water’s River Murray flood response in 2022-23, with the organisation playing a critical role in ensuring the safety of residents as the community faced the state's most significant River Murray flood event in more than 50 years.

David will finish up on 3 December at SA Water and commence as Chief Executive of Urban Utilities in Queensland in early 2027.

The State Government introduced a plan to bring SA Water, industrial water projects including Northern Water and the State Strategic Gas Reserve under a new SA Gas & Water Trust.

The Trust will drive coordinated planning, support housing growth and accelerate major investment across South Australia to realise the state’s economic potential.
