Three public housing tenancies were ended from a Housing Trust complex in Hawthorn last year as the State Government continues its crackdown on antisocial behaviour at Housing Trust sites across Adelaide.

The evictions at the Bonython complex on Egmont Terrace in Hawthorn follow repeated disruptive behaviour and failure to respond to formal warnings, and a sustained effort by the SA Housing Trust to address ongoing issues at the 48-property walk-up flat site.

These actions include regular engagement with tenants, increased site visits and targeted security patrols.

In each case, complaints were substantiated, and tenants were provided with formal warnings and opportunities to change their behaviour before evictions were progressed through the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT).

These evictions are the direct result of the State Government's Good Neighbour Policy, introduced in September 2025, which strengthened the existing warnings, set clear expectations for behaviour and provided a structured process of intervention, and escalation where issues are not resolved.

Data from SA Police state there were 865 SAPOL attendances from 1 January 2022 to 18 May 2026, noting these may not all have been in relation to Housing Trust tenants.

Of these complaints, 241 are general police generated enquiries, 261 were for disturbances or noise related complaints and 58 were classified as either nuisance calls or no-voice calls that did not require police attendance.

In the first six months of 2026, there was a 36% decrease in police call outs following significant action taken by the Housing Trust in 2025 (134 call outs to 86 call outs).

Most complaints made to the SA Housing Trust show most actions related to lower-level noise and nuisance matters.

The Housing Trust continues to maintain a visible on-site presence, including regular patrols, alongside ongoing tenancy management and engagement with residents.

A $8.1 million upgrade of the Bonython complex was completed in 2023, delivering improvements across homes and shared areas to support a safer and more comfortable living environment.
