The State Government’s $1.5 billion investment in water infrastructure is helping unlock capacity for more homes in Adelaide’s north, with one critical project wrapping up as work on another ramps up.

More than 5,780 metres of new trunk water main has been successfully installed and commissioned underneath Craigmore Road, Curtis Road and Heaslip Road, to boost supply into Angle Vale by duplicating existing pipes that feed the area.

Together, the new sections of SA Water’s local network increase its capacity to meet greater water demand from new and expanding greenfield developments.

The expanded water network unlocks new capacity for 1,400 allotments to be developed across Angle Vale and is directly because of the $1.5 billion investment through the State Government’s Housing Roadmap.

As part of the project, pipes ranging in size from 1200, 1000 and 750 millimetres in diameter were laid from SA Water’s storage tank at the corner of Craigmore Road and Adams Road, through to Leicester Grove in Andrews Farm.

Another section of new trunk water main has also been installed along Heaslip Road towards Fradd Road to complete the network upgrades and deliver increased capacity.

While this critical water project is complete, SA Water is continuing with the delivery of its sewer network expansion to support housing growth across Angle Vale.

To increase the local sewer network’s capacity, SA Water is installing approximately 8,000 metres of new trunk sewer main underneath sections Curtis Road and Heaslip Road, as well as some surrounding roads, including Fradd Road.

The broader project also includes upgrades to pumping stations and is expected to be complete by late 2027.

Elsewhere in Adelaide’s north, SA Water has accelerated the delivery of new water infrastructure to support housing growth in Two Wells.

As part of the project, pipelaying has commenced last week along Parkers Road in Gawler Belt, where the installation of 2,300 metres of new 750-millimetre-diameter water main will duplicate existing pipes to increase supply into Two Wells.

This new section of the water network, together with supporting SA Water network upgrades and developer-funded infrastructure, unlocks 700 new allotments in Two Wells – while also improving water pressure for existing residents.

The new pipes will connect into SA Water’s local network and source water from a storage tank in Elizabeth East and new tanks nearing completion at Sandy Creek.

SA Water has targeted this area of the network to duplicate as it serves as a major distribution pipe that feeds Two Wells and surrounding areas.

A series of valves will also be strategically installed within the new pipe network to control the flow of drinking water and enable any future maintenance activities.

The water network upgrades along Parkers Road are expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2027.
