The South Australian Government is working with building and construction industry groups to stimulate construction and provide confidence that SA Water will deliver infrastructure on time.
The State Government has regular meetings with industry bodies and has subsequently developed a policy which will see more homes built and remove any uncertainty around the timing of delivery of sewer infrastructure.
SA Water is on the clock, with the service provider to now pay for the cost of tankering from developments, if they fail to install the sewer infrastructure within specified timeframes.
This move is designed to allay fears within the development industry that the timeline for sewer infrastructure delivery may not be achieved and tankering will be required indefinitely.
A key initiative of the Housing Roadmap, the South Australian Government has invested a record $1.5 billion in water and sewer infrastructure to expedite the construction of new homes.
Since the Housing Roadmap, SA Water has confirmed the availability of water and sewer services to more than 2800 new allotments across the state through a total of 80 DAFIs.
Accelerating water and wastewater infrastructure development: A decision-making guide
It is not possible to fully address all required investment in water and wastewater infrastructure over the next four years, meaning that some developments may not be able to proceed in the near future. The process of infrastructure catch-up will take time, and developments will need to be phased over the coming years to meet the ongoing needs.
However, there are several options available to bring works forward where a party wishes to invest to fast-track development. The following decision-making guide provides a conceptual framework on the pathways available to achieve this. Where a party wishes to explore a connection to SA Water infrastructure, they are encouraged to contact majorld@sawater.com.au.
